Abi: record bank non-performing loans, but mortgages are starting up again

New (negative) record for gross bank non-performing loans which in November reached 149,6 billion, 2,3 billion more than in the previous month of October and about 27,7 billion more than in November 2012, equal to an annual increase of almost 22,8%. This is what emerges from the Abi's monthly report.

Non-performing loans net of write-downs amounted to approximately 75,6 billion, 1,9 billion more than the previous month and 12,9 billion more than in November 2012 (+20,5% per annum). The net bad loans/total loans ratio rose to 4,08% (3,99% in October 2013 and 3,26% in November 2012).

The total number of non-performing borrowers reached a total of 1.205.000, of which over one million (1.015.369) with a non-performing unit amount of less than 125 thousand euros. Abi: loan dynamics remain negative in December but recovering. It marks an annual change of -4,3% from -4,5% in November.

The Abi report also shows that at the end of 2013, however, there was a slight recovery, even if still negative, in the dynamics of bank loans to households and businesses, while on a monthly basis it increased in absolute value by almost 5 billion euros. This is what emerges from the Abi's monthly report. Based on initial estimates, total loans to residents in Italy stood at 1.845,5 billion euro, marking an annual change of -4,3% compared to -4,5% in the previous month of November.

In detail, loans to households and businesses amounted to 1.424 billion in December, with an annual change of -3,4% (-4,5% in November). From the end of 2007, before the start of the crisis, to date loans to the economy have increased from 1.673 to 1.845,5 billion euros, those to households and businesses from 1.279 to 1.424 billion euros.
