Abi, collections, loans and non-performing loans are growing

In May, bank funding grows and loans to households and businesses increase. It is the photograph that emerges from the monthly bulletin of the Abi. According to the association's estimates, in May the total funding of Italian credit institutions rose by 1,99% to 2.183 billion euros, while in April it amounted to 2.178 billion (+2,44%) . The dynamics of loans to households and non-financial companies accelerated reaching 1.505 billion, with a growth of 6,25% compared to May 2010 (in April the trend increase was 6,17%) . Gross non-performing loans borne by the Italian banking system exceeded €95 billion in April, an increase of €1,2 billion compared to March. In relation to loans, non-performing loans amounted to 4,9% (4,8% in March). Non-performing loans net of write-downs in the month instead increased by 770 million from March, to 49,6 billion, for a ratio on loans of 2,59% (2,54% in March). The data, while signaling a deterioration in asset quality, indicate that banks write down less than they did a year ago, thanks to better prospects. Customer deposits increased by 1,1% (+2,5% in April), against bonds growing by 3,3% (+2,4%). It should also be noted that the cost of bond funding settled at 3,15% from 3,11% in April, but the figure rises to around 4% for new issues.
