From the 2 to the 4 June the second edition of Abbey wines 2023: the event that recounts the winemaking traditions and peasant rites of the Italian abbeys. Scenario: the splendid Village of Fossanova in Priverno (Latina), where one of the most important abbeys in Italy is located: the oldest example of Gothic-Cistercian art. The building, in fact, was founded in 1208 by Cistercian monks who came from the monastery of Citeaux in France: a monastery which was fundamental for the production of the renowned Burgundy wines. And it was precisely from this link that the idea of ​​hosting the event in Fossanova was born.

Tasting tables, wine and Slow Food products, master classes and cultural debates will accompany enthusiasts on a timeless journey, all centered around the wines of the abbey, those vineyards that monks and friars have handed down from the Middle Ages to the present day. This is how the event organized by the Passione di Vino Association and Taste Roots Soc. Coop. will take place, in collaboration with the Latina Wine Road, Slow Food Lazio, and Slow Wine and the Italian Sommelier Association.

Abbey wines 2023: the programme

The event will host more than 30 Italian wineries, but also some French abbeys which will exhibit their wine production for tasting. There are also numerous local labels produced in the cellars from the main Lazio Wine Roads. For example, that of Cesanese del Piglio and Latina but also two very young labels, Cori DOC and the Cabernet DOP of Atina, already very popular in the area. Furthermore, Slow Food Latina it will also set up special food stands inside the Borgo itself.

Finally, there will be the opportunity to meet the "masters of the vineyard", the friars of the abbeys who deal with the production of wine. The event will begin at 16pm on Friday 2 June with the Opening Ceremony organized by Slow Food. It will end at 19 pm on Sunday 4 June with a special conference on the importance of the Abbeys in safeguarding wine. Day tickets cost 25 euros. Then further details.
