In Trento the circular economy meets art

From the virtuous action of a single individual inside his own home, which becomes the first daily laboratory for the conscious and circular use of resources, a positive effect is generated on all scales, creating new synergies not only across cities, but also with the territory, water, forest and agricultural resources. This is the meaning of Circular Evolutions, the widespread installation that is staged at MUSE in Trento, created by Eni based on an idea by the Mario Cucinella Architects studio and SOS – School of Sustainability.

Starting from recovery of SmartTown houses, created by Cucinella and SOS, which made the Botanical Garden of Milan shine for two weeks on the occasion of the 2018 Fuorisalone, an evolution of the message has now been proposed, declining it according to a broader vision. In fact, the installation intends to give the public the opportunity to immerse themselves in a sustainable ecosystem and visualize how a series of possible conscious and attentive behaviors generate reactions that give rise to a chain of effects.

The installation, which will remain until March 15, it consists of 405 lodges, retrieved from SmartTown and originally made of Plexiglas. The houses are installed on raw metal stems of 5 different heights that fit inside a dense vegetation represented by different plant species, mostly grasses, chosen because they are able to adapt and survive in extremely variable climatic conditions . Circular Evolutions wants to represent the need to create a connected territorial ecosystem, through the evolution of the infrastructural and technological network and which, combined with virtuous behavior, restores a balance between man and nature.

“We need – commented the architect Mario Cucinella, protagonist of the project – a greater awareness. They are the small daily gestures which, made by billions of people on the planet, can contribute to having a less harmful impact on the Earth. The possibility of giving life to reflections and alternative ways to reformulate environmental issues, through collaborations such as the one that led us to Circular Evolutions, allows us to suggest the way to use the planet's resources in a more sustainable way. Increasing public awareness of climate change issues is a duty that the study has been carrying out for years”.
