After days of high temperatures throughout Italy, the first weekend of August it will bring scattered thunderstorms and showers, especially in the North, from Veneto to Emilia-Romagna. Despite this brief interlude, the African heat will persist throughout the country, with temperature above average, particularly in the Centre-South, and will continue without significant improvements at least until mid-August.

The Ministry of Health has declared the maximum risk level for eight Italian cities, including Florence, for both days of the weekend. Affected cities also include Campobasso, Frosinone, Latina, Perugia, Rieti, Roma e Viterbo. Other cities, such as Bari and Palermo, are under orange alert, while Milan, Naples, Venice and Verona are under green alert.
Forecast for the first weekend of August
Saturday it will feature a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms. In the North, there will be brief showers in the eastern Alps, with maximum temperatures between 28 and 33 degrees. In Emilia-Romagna, hailstorms cannot be ruled out. In the Center, the sky will be clear in the morning, but in the afternoon there will be showers or thunderstorms in the Apennines and along the Adriatic coast, with temperatures between 29 and 34 degrees. In the South, the weather will be variable, with some showers in the mountains and clear skies elsewhere, with maximum temperatures of up to 36 degrees. Winds will be light and variable, and the sea will be light, with occasional rough conditions locally.
Sunday, the weather will be mostly sunny across the country. In the North, afternoon showers could occur in the Alps and Pre-Alps, with temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees. In the Centre, the morning will be clear, while in the afternoon showers are expected in the Apennines, with temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees. In the South, good weather will dominate, but brief thunderstorms in the mountains in the afternoon cannot be ruled out. Temperatures will remain stable or slightly lower, between 32 and 36 degrees.
How long will the intense heat last?
According to forecasts, the scorching heat will continue to characterize the Italian summer: maximum temperatures could reach 40 degrees from North to South. The weekend of 10-11 August could bring locally intense heat, while Ferragosto is expected to be stable, with hot persistent and mild storms.
