The Republican-majority federal Supreme Court overturns Colorado's ruling ahead of Super Tuesday. The ruling will also apply to Maine and Illinois

US Supreme Court: Donald Trump is eligible in the Republican primaries, the tycoon celebrates

Donald Trump is electable. He decided this on the eve of Super Tuesday the US Supreme Court upholding the former president's appeal of the Colorado Supreme Court's decision not to allow him to participate in the vote for his role inassault on Capitol Hill of January 6, 2021 under the 14th Amendment, which bars officials involved in insurrections against the Constitution from holding public office.

The decision, although affecting only Colorado, in all likelihood it will also apply to all other States who in recent months have tried to prevent Trump from running. The timing, among other things, is not causal. In fact, it rarely happens that Supreme Court judges decide in such a short time. But tomorrow, Tuesday 5 March, is scheduled on Super Tuesday, a day in which 15 states plus the territory of American Samoa will vote in the Republican and Democratic primaries. Among the states called to the polls there are also Colorado and Maine, on which the decision will have a practical effect.

The Supreme Court ruling

The US Supreme Court, the most important American federal court, unanimously ruled that Donald Trump will be able to participate in the primaries Republicans in Colorado.

The decision comes three months after that of the Colorado State Supreme Court which, on the contrary, had established that the tycoon could not take part in the state primaries, declaringor “ineligible” for his involvement in the storming of Capitol Hill.

At that point, Donald Trump's lawyers filed an appeal, sending the matter all the way to the federal Supreme Court.

The ruling will set a precedent also for all other appeals pending in other States. Also Maine and Illinois they had excluded Trump from the vote based on the 14th amendment, but now they will have to adapt to the ruling of the nine wise men.

The Supreme Court, which - it should be remembered - is made up of six conservative judges (three of whom were appointed by Trump himself) and three progressives, will soon be called upon to rule on another question, that ofpresidential immunity invoked by Trump in the federal trial for attempts to subvert the 2020 vote, culminating in the storming of the Capitol. In the meantime, however, the tycoon celebrates by talking about "A great victory for America."
