Turin Industrial Union: the 2023 Assembly looks to the future of the city

It took place on Monday 6 November at the Teatro Regio in Turin.assembly 2023 ofIndustrial Union by Title “Turin, space for the future”. The Assembly brings together the city's business system for an annual meeting with the local community, including representatives of institutions, public and private bodies, the cultural sector, associations and students.

Among the guests of the Assembly were the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, the President of Confindustria Carlo Bonomi, Mayor Stephen Lo Russo and the President of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio.

Relaunching the role of the Turin area

In this year's edition, the General Assembly of the Turin Industrial Union has undergone a significant change. Instead of the traditional conference meeting centered on the presentation of a general report, it was transformed into a place of discussion and dialogue to explore priorities and opportunities to strengthen the role of the Turin area at a national and international level.

To characterize the appointment, a intense dialogue broad spectrum between Giorgio Marsiaj, president of the Turin Industrial Union, and the journalist Paolo Mieli: a conversation which, starting from the analysis of the current context, looks to the future of the territory.

Four key areas

To better understand the future, the Assembly has identified four key areas: geopolitics, environment and health, innovation and artificial intelligence, and attractiveness of the territory. Each of these areas has been entrusted to high-level experts, including Dario Fabbri, geopolitical analyst and director of Domino, Ilaria Capua, Senior Fellow for Global Health at Johns Hopkins University, Barbara Caputo, director of the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence at the Polytechnic of Turin, and Giovanni sandri, BlackRock's head of Southern Europe.

“The four topics addressed are perhaps not exhaustive of all the complex dynamics underway – he explained Giorgio Marsiaj – but they are closely related and unavoidable. Because, in a context of declining demographics and an aging population, work for the future it means to continue investing for an inclusive, supportive and sustainable society. A scenario that requires to be addressed with an approach and tools appropriate to the times we are living in, which is why it is important to give voice and listen to those who, like our guests today, have competence and knowledge".

“A message – continues the President – ​​that is essential to reach the new generations and it is important that they are there today too the kids to listen to us: it is our duty to reflect with them on the world of work and business they are about to enter, so that they have the opportunity to concretely understand the problems of an advanced industrial society. For my part, I can assure them that we are aware of our responsibilities and the need to return what has been stolen from them in terms of debt and degradation of the environment."
