Trump has become toxic even for the European far right: even Le Pen and Vox are distancing themselves from him

The opening title of the Sheet of yesterday perfectly captures the disappointment of Trump supporters, not only for the about-face onUkraine but for the disasters that the American President is causing in the economy and on financial markets: “Surprise. In Europe – title of the newspaper directed by Claudio Cerasa – has already become toxic for many followers of Trump“. The French case and the Spanish case are eloquent. In France even the authoritative Le Monde he acknowledged the far-right leader's clear distancing from Trump, Marine Le Pen, and his protégé Jordan Bardella. But even the Spanish are not joking if it is true, as it is true, that the co-founder of Vox Javier Ortega Smith, went so far as to argue that “if Trump decides to turn his back on a European country like Ukraine and divide its borders and make so-called peace agreements without taking this offended nation into account, we cannot agree with Trump”. And thank goodness. But what is the Italian right doing? The Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni he is trying to balance Trump and Europe but his enthusiasm for the White House bully seems to have cooled considerably compared to the beginning and even the leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, while remaining a fan of the American President, does not hide some hesitation given that, faced with the attacks of Elon Musk to NATO, could not avoid rejecting them. Perhaps not even Trump thought he could provoke so many own goals in so few days.
