Terna, agreement signed for the new invisible connection between Italy and Austria

Terna signed the agreement with the energy-intensive companies for the construction of the low-impact power line on the landscape"Glurns-Nauders”: 28 km of completely underground infrastructure. The operator of the national electricity grid has foreseen an investment of 80 million euro and entry into operation for 2023.

Included in the XNUMX-year electricity grid development plan of Entso-e (the European association of grid operators), the new electricity interconnection will contribute to increasing the reliability and security of energy exchanges between Italy e Austria with important benefits for the community.

The project will allow the two countries to increase the electricity interchange capacity of 300 MW (twice the current one), helping to better integrate renewable resources and improve the efficiency and reliability of the electricity grid, with a consequent increase in the quality and continuity of the supply.

Pursuant to Law 99/2009 – reads a note – Terna has concluded the sale of the entire share capital of company Resia Interconnector Srl to Interconnector Energy Italia Scpa - a consortium that brings together the so-called energy-intensive private companies (industrial consumers mainly in the steel, paper and chemical sectors) -, to the Toscana Energia SpA Consortium and to VDP Fonderia SpA, signing the agreements for the construction and operation of the private part, located in Italy, of the alternating current power line between Italy and Austria.

The company Resia Interconnector Srl, wholly controlled by the Terna Group, was established in 2018 on behalf of the assignees selected pursuant to the aforementioned law which governs the so-called electrical interconnectors and is the owner pursuant to a specific decree issued by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, for the "Italy-Austria" power line, of the right of exemption from third party access (TPA) for a transmission capacity of 150 MW and for a period of 10 years starting from the date of entry into commercial operation of the new interconnection.
