Terna: green light for the reorganization of the electricity grid in the southwest of Rome

The investment of 85 million euros, Terna restarted the redevelopment project of power grid of ahigh tension in the south-west area of Rome. The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security has given the final green light, convening the Decision-making Conference of Services and approving the Environmental Compatibility decree. This step unblocks the work in a strategic area for the reliability of the Roman electrical system.

Underground power lines and new overhead lines

The project involves the construction of approximately 18 km of underground cable power lines and over 15 km of new overhead lines. Thanks to this intervention, it will be possible demolish 24 km of obsolete power lines, eliminating around 90 pylons and reducing the visual and environmental impact on residential areas. The new infrastructure aims to ensure a more stable network that is resistant to the capital's future energy needs.

New Electricity Station in Ponte Galeria

Terna will build a new 380/150 kV Electrical Substation in Ponte Galeria. This structure will be the nerve center for the electrical distribution of the area and will be connected to the new power lines, including the 150 kV Lido N.-Vitinia-Tor di Valle line. Variations will also be made to existing power lines in the areas of Selvotta, Castelluccia and Vallerano, in order to move the lines away from residential areas.

An intervention with low environmental impact

The redevelopment project aims not only at energy efficiency but also at environmental sustainability. The underground lines will minimize the visual and landscape impact, improving the quality of life for local communities. The project is part of a broader investment plan of approximately 500 million euros, which includes the construction of 45 km of new connections and the demolition of over 120 km of obsolete overhead lines.

Terna has made available to citizens and interested parties the project documentation at the offices of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. Within 30 days of the publication of the notice, it will be possible to submit written comments on the project, thus ensuring the participation of local communities in the decision-making phase and strengthening the dialogue between institutions and the territory.
