In September 2024, the companies expect 538 thousand hires, with fixed-term contracts lasting more than one month or permanent contracts. Compared to September 2023, there was an increase of 1,3%. For the quarter September-November 2024, the Estimated hiring slightly exceed 1,4 million, with a marginal growth of 0,1% compared to the same period of the previous year. These are the data provided by the Excelsior Information System Bulletin, drawn up by Unioncamere and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies.

Work: the service sector is driving growth

September employment growth is driven by service sector, with 386 thousand contracts scheduled (+3,9% compared to 12 months ago) and over 1 million in the quarter. The main contributors are tourism businesses (+ 21,4%) and Business (+ 25,4%).

Slows, instead, the question of I work in the industrial sector, with 152 thousand hires expected in September (-4,6% compared to a year ago) and 418 thousand for the quarter (-5,7%). In particular, manufacturing is looking for around 98 thousand workers in September (-1,0%) and construction over 54 thousand (-10,5%). More hiring in medium-large companies, small ones suffer

Le medium-large sized companies show positive expectations, with an increase of 9 thousand hires in September (+2,3%) and 15 thousand in the quarter (+1,5%). On the contrary, the forecasts for the companies with up to 9 employees show a decline, with -1,8 thousand hires in September (-1,3%) and -13 thousand in the quarter (-3,2%).

Il fixed-term contract remains the most common, with 306 thousand expected hires, equal to 56,9% of the total, followed by permanent contracts, which amount to 104 thousand.

Staffing difficulties continue

In September, businesses are faced with significant difficulties in finding qualified personnel, with over 254 thousand hires (47,2% of the total) that are problematic. The main cause of these difficulties is the “lack of candidates”, reported by 30,4% of companies.

Le professions with the greatest mismatch are those of specialized workers, with a difficulty in finding 65,6%. They are followed by managers, with a percentage of 61,4%, and technical professions, at 52,9%. Fixed and mobile plant operators also face a significant shortage of candidates, with 51,5%.

Among professional figures more difficult to find, the specialized workers in construction finishing stand out, with a difficulty of finding 79,0%. Other problematic figures include blacksmiths, tool makers (78,8%), tool makers and wood craftsmen (76,0%), and foundries and welders (73,3%). Production process management technicians, mechanics and repairers, beauty care operators and engineering technicians are also particularly difficult to find.

Immigrant workers and young people

In September, companies are looking for immigrant workers for over 100 thousand hires, representing 19,4% of the total. sectors that more they resort to foreign labor include operational support services (34,3%), transport and logistics (32,8%), metallurgy (23,6%), accommodation and food services (23,3%) and food (19,5%).

Le opportunities for young people under 30 reach almost 165 thousand units, equal to 30,6% of the total expected hiring. The sectors with the greatest opportunities for young people are financial and insurance services (48%), information technology and telecommunications services (47,6%), media and communication (47,4%), trade (41,2%) and accommodation and food services (41,0%).

Demand grows in the North-West and in the Center, while the North-East is decreasing

In September, the Job demand increases in the North West and Central Italy (+6 thousand hirings for each area). Demand remains stable in the South and the Islands, while the North East records a decline of 4 thousand hires.
