La sustainability of Italian companies represents a competitive advantage and distinctive factor with “CO₂ Mitigation Solutions”, the new Intesa Sanpaolo program dedicated to companies and the improvement of their sustainability and competitiveness profile on the markets.
Intesa Sanpaolo continues its path assupport for sustainable business transition and, with this offer, provides its customers with the possibility of:
- measure your carbon footprint using a specific tool;
- define a multi-year CO2 emissions reduction path consistent with science-based scenarios (GHG protocol);
- take concrete action on the basis of a set of proposals for industrial decarbonisation interventions;
- financially support international climate change mitigation projects.
This new initiative – the result of the collaboration between the Banca dei Territori Division led by Stefano Barrese and the Chief Sustainability Officer Governance Area led by Paola Angeletti – expands and enriches Intesa Sanpaolo's commitment to environmental sustainability and in particular to the protection of natural capital and the fight against climate change. An offer made possible by the deep relationship that binds Intesa Sanpaolo to its customers, which sees the bank understand and respond to the ever-increasing attention of companies towards good environmental practices, within the scope of corporate processes and climate change mitigation projects.
With "CO₂ Mitigation Solutions” Intesa Sanpaolo will support companies in their growth path and in enhancing sustainability in their corporate strategies. On the one hand, it will put a tool for measuring the CO₂ emissions generated is available, to define reduction objectives and actions through interventions on company processes. On the other hand, it will give client companies the possibility, for residual emissions, toaccess certified carbon credits by international standards, financing high environmental impact projects selected by the bank that encourage forest protection and generate important co-benefits in terms of biodiversity and support for local communities.
I carbon credits, represent a ton of CO2 equivalent reduced or removed from the atmosphere thanks to a project that has generated a positive impact on the environment. Through their purchase, companies can contribute financially to the support of one or more environmental protection projects.
Specifically, the international initiatives selected by Intesa Sanpaolo for companies interested in acting for the climate beyond their own supply chain concern two projects: “Katingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation Project”, aimed at restoring 150 hectares of tropical peatlands in Indonesia, and “Kuamut Rainforest Conservation Project”, to protect 84 hectares of degraded rainforest in Malaysia.
The new initiative is carried out with the technical collaboration of Carbon sink, a leading company in Italy for over ten years in the field of consultancy aimed at developing climate strategies and climate action projects certified by the most important international standards.
