Farewell to Pilgrim Capaldo, banker protagonist of Italian finance for several decades, university professor and prominent figure in the political world. He was 85 years old and was originally from Atripalda, in the province of Avellino. He graduated in economics and commerce at Sapienza University of Rome and had undertaken an academic career.

In the early 1980s he was one of three arbitrators appointed by the Secretariat of State of the Holy See to resolve the issue Ambrosian bank. In 1987 he became president of the Rome's Conspiracy Fund; in '92 he was then president of the Bank of Rome. At the end of the 90s he returned to teaching with a chair of Corporate Programming and Finance at Sapienza. An exponent of the Christian Democracy he was one of the founding fathers of theUdr with Francis Cossiga and long-time president of the New Millennium Foundation.
