In the regional ranking, the Italian insurance-financial group, directly controlled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and specialized in supporting businesses and the national economic fabric, second detects theEmilia Romagna with a share of 14% on national sales overall and with over 370 thousand active companies of which around 20 thousand SMEs. Internationalization plays a key role for the region: over 47% of GDP originates from exports and in 2023 exports reached a value of 85,1 billion, thanks to an increase of 1,1%.
Il Veneto, with around 400 thousand active businesses (including 24.687 SMEs), is the third region for exports and last year it exported goods worth 81,9 billion, equal to 13,1% of the total nationally, with a stable trend compared to the previous year. The Sace report then places emphasis on Lazio and in particular to the pharmaceutical sector: with over 460 thousand active companies of which (around 19 thousand SMEs), the region exported goods worth 2023 billion in 28,7. Despite having registered a 11% contraction compared to the previous year, Lazio confirmed itself as the sixth Italian region for exports with a 4,6% share of national sales across the border.

Surprise Vietnam
The meeting was also an opportunity to inform businesses which are the most interesting countries for Italian exports in a phase of geopolitical tension: the USA, Spain, the Gulf countries or India which is investing more and more in manufacturing, added Sace's chief economist, Alexander Terzulli, as well as, surprisingly, the Vietnam .
“We continue to establish and increase those connections we have every day with the business world. Only through these connections are we able to improve ourselves and increase the impact we have on the economy,” Ricci said. “In 2023 we supported around 50 thousand companies, 45 thousand SMEs, developing 150 billion in jobs. This was a significant factor for the Italian economy."
Sace: multiplier effect expected from investments in Artificial Intelligence
The event is part of the SACE For Made in Italy, two weeks of free initiatives in which the companies involved were able to meet with SACE representatives in the area and with the economists of the Research Office for in-depth information on regional exports and address issues related to sustainability and AI.
According l 'SACE Studies Office, a country that invests in new technologies and AI for a third of its sectors and increases productivity by 20%, generates a multiplier effect across the entire economy of 1,3% per year for the first five years and 0,6% in the first ten. If instead we were to hypothesize an all-round investment in a country's economy, the annual increase would be 1,5% for approximately 10-20 years.
New policy to protect yourself from climate risk
During the SACE Open Day, the topic was also explicitly discussed climate risks: the growing exposure to increasingly frequent extreme geological and environmental phenomena and the need for companies to insure themselves against the resulting damages. This is why SACE has launched the new digital tool "Climate Risk Protection". The new policy offers companies the possibility of insuring land and buildings, plants and machinery, industrial and commercial equipment against damage caused by natural disasters and catastrophic events such as earthquakes, floods, flooding and landslides.
