Leonardo and the Franco-German group KNDS sign a strategic alliance to create a European defense group

Leonardo e knds – a European defense group born from the merger of the German Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and the French Nexter – have entered into an important strategic alliance to further define and develop closer collaboration. The signature, in agreement with the Italian Ministry of Defense, places emphasis on the creation of a European defense group, strengthening collaboration in ground electronics and working on the next generation of armored vehicles, including the MGCS (Main Ground Combat System). The agreement follows the strategy of the Italian Ministry of Defense and the action plan of the Italy-Germany agreement, highlighting the intent to increase production and development capabilities in Italy for future European projects and exports. This initiative takes on particular relevance in the context of the possible creation of an Italian-French-German land hub.

Furthermore, Leonardo and Knds have signed an agreement for the joint implementation of the Main Battle Tank procurement program based on Leopard 2A8. The companies will collaborate in the development, construction and maintenance of the tank for the Italian army, as well as the support platforms.

The agreement will also include the new infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) known by the name Aics and the combat support systems on which the Italian defense is working for the renewal and strengthening of the land forces.
