Lazio Region: 8 million for Culture "Museums, Archives, Libraries, Institutes and Archaeological Parks"

Thanks to the approval by the Council of the 2020 Annual Plan of the interventions on cultural services and cultural enhancement, already from next week the Lazio Region will begin to allocate over 8 million euros to finance renovation works of cultural spaces (5,2 million) without neglecting the support for the functioning and activities of museums, libraries, archives, cultural institutes and ecomuseums (for over 3 million). A strong relaunch and support plan in view of the reopening of the places of culture scheduled for May 18th.

The planned public notices will therefore have a twofold objective: stimulate recovery by supporting projects for the redevelopment of cultural spaces and developing cultural promotion projects capable of also ensuring compliance with the principle of social distancing, in compliance with current regulatory provisions, or which can be disseminated via digital platforms (such as workshops, e-learning activities for students and professionals, online guided tours via apps or podcasts).

The 5,2 million euro public call for the redevelopment of museums, historical archives, libraries, archaeological areas and parks and monumental complexes continues in the wake of the work begun in 2019 which has kicked off an important process of renewal of the structures culture of Lazio. Projects of up to 300 euros for building recovery and maintenance will be admitted, as well as interventions to improve communication, accessibility and usability of museums, historical archives, libraries, archaeological areas and parks and monumental complexes.

100% of public places located in small towns with less than 15.000 inhabitants will be financed without a grant, 80% of those in towns with over 15.000 inhabitants and 50% of private spaces. Particular attention will be paid to the development of digital technologies for communication and access to heritage even remotely, in compliance with the measures envisaged to combat the spread of the coronavirus. Resources will also be allocated for the improvement of the spaces, of the reception and information models and for the introduction of innovative tools that allow the narration and interpretation of the extraordinary artistic and cultural heritage preserved in these places with references and combinations also to art Contemporary.

In terms of cultural services, several public notices are on the way for a total budget of around 2,5 million euros aimed at museums and ecomuseums, libraries, archives and cultural institutes. In particular, three tenders are dedicated to the cultural institutes of Lazio, registered in the 2020-2022 regional register, with a total budget of around 800 thousand euros. The first is aimed at financing recovery works, through conservative restoration, restructuring or consolidation of buildings owned by the Institutes; purchase of furnishings, goods and equipment that ensure a wider usability of the cultural heritage, also through the use of new technological means. The second has the purpose of supporting the functioning of the cultural institutes for expenses relating to personnel, rents or depreciation charges for the premises, utilities and maintenance in particular so that it is possible to program new extraordinary openings in streaming with educational activities or virtual tours. Finally, the third has the purpose of financing projects that include cultural and educational initiatives that can also be used through digital platforms (e.g. workshops, e-learning activities, etc.) which make it possible to discover the treasures kept in these places and highlight their role as essential structures for the growth of the territory and the community.

For Museums, Libraries and Historical Archives, a public notice of around 1,5 million euros is forthcoming to support their functioning, enhance the level of accessibility of the structures, promote knowledge of the artistic, bibliographic and archival heritage preserved also through the use of digital platforms and technological instruments as well as strengthen the training of library, museum and archival staff in Lazio. Among the planned interventions there is support for the cataloging of the heritage, the acquisition of new book and documentary material, museum and archival funds, but also dusting activities.

Resources equal to 200.000 euros are also foreseen for the Lazio Ecomuseums which, through two public notices, will be able to launch new research and cataloging projects of the cultural, natural and landscape heritage of their territory; carry out educational activities also in e-learning mode; support staff training with updating activities also through the digital platform; carry out interventions from a static, systems, hygienic-sanitary point of view (including any sanitization of the structures) and the overcoming of architectural barriers; set up special signs on the paths or routes in the Ecomuseum area; create multimedia tools, software and apps that tell the story of the cultural, natural and landscape heritage of our territory.
