Ai Decanter World Wine Awards 2024,Italian consolidated its prestigious position in the world wine scene, winning six labels "Best in Show“, the third highest result of the competition, preceded only by France and Spain. This event, organized by the renowned Decanter magazine, represents the pinnacle of wine excellence in the United Kingdom and saw Italian excellence emerge among the over 18 thousand competing labels.
The six winners
Italy celebrated the success with six Italian wines included in the narrow circle of best in the world. Among these, the Barolo Bricco San Pietro of the Broccardo company, an authentic expression of the Monforte d'Alba terroir. With its fruity and floral profile, accompanied by precise tannins, this Barolo is perfect for accompanying robust dishes such as mature cheeses and meats.
Again, the Montanello 2020 by Fratelli Monchiero stands out for its intensity and persistence, characteristics that develop further with aging, giving complex aromas and an elegant structure.
THEAmarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Bosan 2015 by Cesari is another example of excellence, with its complex and unpredictable notes that reflect the long aging in oak barrels. Described by experts as complex and unpredictable, this wine won over the judges with its surprising notes, the result of careful aging in oak barrels which gives depth and structure. Coming from one of the highest vineyards of the denomination in Montalcino, the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2018 from Carpineto is an elegant and refined expression of Sangiovese. With an intense ruby color and garnet reflections, this wine enchants with its aromas of berries and a spicy finish.
Complete the winning team the Juvelo Passito Gewurztraminer 2022 of Cantina Andriano, with its perfect balance between sweetness, acidity and alcohol, and theAnthium Bellone 2023 of Casale del Giglio, with its exotic hints and a pleasant flavor, complete the exceptional Italian representation among the best wines in the world.
Decanter World Wine Awards 2024: Piedmont in the lead with 20 medals
Il Piemonte, therefore, confirms itself as the protagonist region at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2024, boasting not only the greatest representation with 20 medals, but also the achievement of two prestigious Best in Show with Barolos. Among its excellences, 4 Platinum and 14 Gold also stand out, including the Grignolino Le Nocche 2022 by Vinchio Vaglio. Also Veneto e Toscana have obtained important recognitions, with 17 and 15 medals respectively, thanks to iconic wines such as Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva and Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. The Lazio made its entry among the best world producers with the 2023 Anthium Bellone from Casale del Giglio, unanimously appreciated by the judges. The Trentino Alto Adige, however, saw its Juvelo Passito Gewürztraminer 2022 from Cantina Andriano position itself among the top 50 sweet wines of the region. Excellent results were also achieved by Sardinia, Puglia e Campania, the latter with the Fiano di Avellino Glam di Vernice which obtained a prominent place in the Top 20 Value Gold, an award dedicated to the best wines with an excellent quality-price ratio.
