One new business out of 3 is led by an under 35. At the end of June 2018, the Register of Chambers of Commerce counts 551.761 youth businesses. Between April and June, the young entrepreneurs of the boot achieved a balance of 18.659 unit plus between business openings and closings, equal to 60% of the entire balance for the period. Overall, the weight of young entrepreneurs on the total number of enterprises is 9,1% but, if we look at the registrations of new enterprises, the role of young entrepreneurs appears to be decisive in ensuring the turnover of our production base. In fact, between April and June, businesses under the age of 35 accounted for 30,8% of all registrations of new businesses in the Chambers of Commerce registers.
Among the main sectors of activity, they explain Unioncamere and InfoCbitter, those in which the presence of youth enterprises is higher are the activities of services for buildings and landscaping (cleaning and gardening), where the under 35s have a 14,6% share, the other activities of personal services (including laundries, hairdressers, wellness centres) where they account for 14,3% and the activities of Catering (13,9%).
La Calabria is the region in which youth businesses represent the highest share of the total (12,8%), closely followed by Campania (12,6%) and from Sicilia (11,8%). In absolute values, the ranking of growth in the second quarter of 2018 is led by Campania (+3.004 companies led by 'under 35'), followed by Lombardy (+2.341) and Lazio (+ 2.082).
Compared to the average of companies, however, young ones suffer from greater fragility from the point of view of assets. With reference to companies set up as companies and with declared capital, the share of companies under 35 with higher share capital at 10 euros it is clearly below the average in each of the classes.
As for the representativeness of Italian society, youth entrepreneurship sees a relatively greater presence of businesses than the general average female (28,9% against a general average of 21,9%) and of foreign component of non-EU origin (15,9% against 7,7%).
