Intesa Sanpaolo and Visa renew partnership to boost digital payments

Intesa Sanpaolo e Visas have renewed their partnership multi-year strategic plan to promote the digital transition and growth of digital payments. The collaboration focuses on expanding innovative solutions for business and consumer customers and on joint initiatives aimed at fostering financial inclusion and increasing awareness of digitalization.

"In a continuously evolving market as with payments, our goal is to identify and where possible anticipate customer needs, providing them with cutting-edge, increasingly digital, inclusive and omnichannel solutions, while at the same time promoting acceptance for merchants. The renewal of the partnership with Visa allows us to give these purposes even greater value and concreteness" commented Claudia Vassena, Head of Sales & Marketing Digital Retail Department of Intesa Sanpaolo.

“With this collaboration we intend to best direct the value that the digital payments can offer consumers and businesses, thanks to technological innovation, investments in security and Visa's global presence", explained Stefano M. Stoppani, country manager Visa Italy. “What we are announcing today is not just a trade agreement: it is much more. It is a joint look at the future of the country system, of families, of businesses, of young people, in a sharing of intent that, together with technology, sees as a pillar the commitment aimed at promoting greater financial inclusion and growth throughout the national territory.”

Italians increasingly rely on digital payments

In Italy i Digital payments are growing rapidly, with transactions reaching 2023 trillion euros in 11, driven mainly by bank transfers (94% of the total). Credit and debit card transactions increased by 11,5%, reaching 426 billion euros, and payment cards exceeded 120 million, with an increase of over 5 million compared to 2022. However, growth is still slow when compared to other European countries, highlighting a slower modernization compared to the continental average.
