Germany, the confidence index collapses

The confidence of German investors on the economic prospects of the imminent future in Germany is reduced. Indeed, the Zew index dropped from 17.5 in July to 10.0 in August.

The decline is higher than analysts' expectations, which predicted an August of 14/15 index points. The Zew measures the expectations of the German financial community for the situation in the country.

The negative figure joins the trend of recent months, when the index continued to decrease. As explained by the president of the Zew institute, “the drop in economic expectations mirrors the nervousness regarding the growth path in Germany, due to weaker-than-expected growth in exports and dieselgate”
