Intesa, G. Braggiotti's chances are growing in the list of external candidates to succeed Passera

The talks and contacts over the weekend and at the beginning of the week to find a CEO of Intesasanpaolo to succeed Corrado Passera with a broad consensus among the shareholders have seen, in the last few hours, a new first-rate candidate who bears the name of Gerardo Braggiotti, current CEO of Banca Leonardo. The research, which passes from the hands of the chairman of the bank's Supervisory Board, Giovanni Bazoli, has not yet reached a turning point and the whole game is still in full swing. The search for Passera's successor must respond to two main criteria: identify a candidate with high professionalism and managerial ability and obtain the maximum consensus among the shareholders. This is why, despite his dossier being on Bazoli's table, Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, another illustrious candidate at the top of Intesa and just left the board of the ECB to go and teach at Harvard, does not seem to be able to hit the target. Bini is strongly supported by the Florentine partners of Intesa of the Foundation which belongs to the Tuscan Cassa di Risparmio, but this does not seem sufficient to get his candidacy off the ground. Only if consensus were not found on an external candidate, would the pendulum swing back to an internal candidate such as Marco Morelli, wanted above all by the heads of the Compagnia San Paolo of Turin, or Gaertano Miccicché. But it will still take a few days to solve the enigma of the succession to Passera.
