A new paid version of Facebook and Instagram is arriving across Europe. But how much will the subscription cost and why has Meta changed its strategy? Here's everything you need to know

Paid Facebook and Instagram without advertising: here's how much they will cost and how it will work

Now there are no more doubts. After the indiscretion published on Tuesday by the Wall Street Journal, the news went around the world. Soon, in Europe, Instagram and Facebook they will also have one paid version for those who are tired of seeing advertising.

How much will the Facebook and Instagram subscription cost

Meta Platforms, the parent company of the two social networks, is already working to study a paid plan aimed at EU users who want to access the advertising-free version of Facebook and Instagram. The cost should be around $ 14 per month.

In detail, the monthly cost will depend on the type of device from which you access it: from desktop the amount will be 10 € for each account, from mobile it will go up to 13 € (due to the fees that Apple and Google charge for in-app payments). Each additional account will cost around 6 euros.

Facebook and Instagram remain free for those who view advertising

For those who decide to do nothing and continue to use the services of the two social networks exactly as happens now, nothing will change. Facebook and Instagram will remain free. In fact, number one Mark Zuckerberg – founder of Facebook and CEO of Meta – has reiterated several times that it is essential that the company's main services remain free and that economic revenue comes from advertising alone. “There will always be a free version of Facebook,” he said five years ago.

“Meta believes in the value of free services supported by personalized ads – declared a company spokesperson -. However, we continue to evaluate options that guarantee the compliance with regulatory requirements constantly evolving. We have no further information to share at this time."

Last January, Meta was fined €390 million by the Irish Privacy Commissioner for breaching transparency obligations and adopting an incorrect legal basis when processing users' personal data for advertising purposes. The company has therefore thought of a new strategy to circumvent the new European privacy protection rules and the paid plan without advertising would be the chosen path.
