European hydrogen will have its own governance: will the network of operators do without bureaucracy?

A new representative body for hydrogen operators is born. The political game on energy transition remains open

European hydrogen will have its own governance: will the network of operators do without bureaucracy?

The seriousness with which Europe faces the transition to a new energy system is almost proportional to the birth of new organisms. Renewable sources are tossed around in the field of good intentions and promises left and right. Each source is examined more and worse than in scientific workers to finally arrive at new apparatuses. They multiply to best represent the parties involved. Is there an updated list?

New energy system and new organisms

As in the best traditions of representation and lobbying, these structures are the ones that look after interests and dictate the rules to politics. After the last European elections the picture has become more complicated and the recommendations of Mario Draghi they are coming against the times compared to choices made a few months ago. It is happening with hydrogen, the free source in nature. Is it useful for the transition? Yes, then let's create a new organism, the European network of network operators for hydrogen (Ennoh). It will bring together all network managers European transport – Transmission operator system (TSO). It is a brand new structure, foreseen by a decision of December 2023 intended to influence the use and diffusion of the source. Evidently the existing bodies do not guarantee the best results for that energy and environmental transition that we talk and write about.

What is Energy Democracy?

Energy democracy is enriched, but the rigidities and internal competitions, seen in many similar structures, raise great doubts about their efficiency. The bureaucracy and blocking technicalities are a suffocating misfortune for a process that needs money, harmony, and vision. It is not easy to demolish doubts that cloud every prospect of change. Acer, the Agency for the Cooperation of National Energy Regulators, has started a consultation on the draft of the founding statute of Ennoh and on the procedures that will regulate contracts, investments, development in EU countries. The evaluations on the draft will have to arrive from September 23 to October 21, and then Acer will have 4 months to evaluate them and provide an opinion to the European Commission. Ennoh should become operational in 2025, but no one is in a position to say whether the forecast is realistic. The body must ensure cooperation between transport companies, but the difference between last December's decision and tomorrow lies in the composition of the new Commission.

How much of the 2019 Green Deal will be effective and practicable? Which sources will actually be supported by the 27 countries from a financial point of view? Remember that kind of everything inside, which is the taxonomy European? For green hydrogen the goal is to produce 10 million tons by 2030, instead of the approximately 20 thousand tons currently produced. The disproportion is very high and the time to reach those levels (today increasingly theoretical) is only six years. And the money? 65 billion euros are expected for networks and 40 for electrolysers to be built in Europe. They are doing very well, but the new network of operators will take care of it. If it knows how, it will escape the bureaucracy and paraplegia of Brussels.
