Enel and Civil Protection, agreement on electricity emergencies

Agreement between Enel and the civil protection on emergency management which could weigh on the operation of the electricity system in view of the hot Italian summer. The agreement, which is based on the previous collaborations established over the years between the department and the company led by Francesco Starace, updates the existing measures and introduces new elements and new areas of intervention in order to ensure greater operational efficiency in forecasting, prevention and management of risks that can have an impact on the electricity system, creating inconvenience for citizens.

 The agreement will last 4 years, therefore until 2023, and establishes three different, but complementary, areas of intervention:

  • planning: procedures and methods of interaction between the Civil Protection system and Enel will be defined. Risk analyzes and scenarios will also be developed aimed at implementing preventive actions and planning intervention activities in the event of an emergency;
  • communication between the parties and outwards: the definition of shared models is envisaged for both the ordinary and emergency phases;
  • training joint staff. Targeted exercises will also be organized with simulations of possible scenarios that require shared actions between Enel and the Civil Protection.

"By signing this protocol, we confirm and strengthen a collaboration that has seen us engaged for years and which has already brought important results - said Carlo Tamburi, director of Enel Italy – Effective coordination between those who manage public utility services and infrastructures and the Civil Protection Department ensures faster interventions in the event of disasters and optimal management in all emergency phases, guaranteeing a capacity to respond to the needs of citizens and institutions at all times more punctual and rapid, both in the event of a crisis and in reconstruction activities".
