ENAC, air traffic: passengers more than quadrupled in the first half of 2022

In the first half of 2022 the air traffic in Italy more than quadrupled compared to the same period in 2021. Based on the first half-year report prepared by ENAC, between January and June of this year the passenger volume grew by 314%. Movements, i.e. the number of take-offs and landings at Italian airports, also more than doubled.

Despite this improvement,"we are not yet in pre-pandemic conditions, but the trend appears positive,” reads a note. The data processed by Enac reveal that around 20 million passengers are missing to equalize the 2019 result: the difference is therefore 23,5% compared to the first half of 3 years ago. A result conditioned by the first months of 2022, in which stringent restrictions were still in force for being able to fly.

Extra-European traffic

Driving the recovery during the semester, in addition to the domestic market, is the boom in departures and arrivals from Americas, but also the resumption of connections with destinations in Eastern Europe: Middle East e Asia. The number of passengers carried to and from non-European destinations totals a +588% which returns the photograph of a renewed desire to travel.
