Confindustria Veneto Est: the industrial metropolis worth 96 billion GDP takes the field

The merger of the operational structures of Confindustria Venetocentro (Padua and Treviso), Confindustria Venice and Rovigo is currently being implemented. After the approval of the industrial plan and the general integration agreement, it has been active since the beginning of the year Confindustria Veneto East, the new colossus of Venetian industrial representation. The start-up phase, until the next elections in 2024, will see the leadership Leopold Right, the incumbent president with the longest remaining term of office. This is a strategic signal for the future of Veneto industry, grappling with the challenges of the new reorganization of global value chains. The merger gives life to the second territorial association of the national Confindustria system, with 5.000 member companies and 270.000 employees.

From a geographical point of view, the new Confindustria Veneto Est incorporates a metropolis with 3 million inhabitants, 96 billion of GDP produced and 32,5 billion of exports. In the Veneto economy as a whole, the new subject represents 55% of the added value manufacturing in the Veneto and 6,8% of the national one (27 billion in 2021).

Confindustria Veneto Est, Right: "System innovation"

«Confindustria Veneto Est is finally a reality – declared Leopoldo Destro – thanks to the courage and vision of the entrepreneurs. Indeed, the crises that have hit our businesses and our region hard require us to resist, to evolve and to rebuild. They require ambition to build a common future. We will be able to play a more incisive game in terms of representation in Europe too, and in the international competition between large metropolitan areas, to attract young people, multinationals, financial capital, intelligence and culture. There are many primary objectives at the basis of this "system innovation": first of all a vision of a vast area, beyond administrative borders, to give companies a national and international perspective. And then accompany our small, medium and large companies in the large transformation processes underway, placing sustainability, digitization, innovation, human capital and dimensional growth at the center of our action".

The integration agreement of the two associations

The integration agreement was signed by the presidents Leopoldo Destro of Assindustria Venetocentro and Vincenzo Marinese of Confindustria Venezia-Rovigo after a long preparatory work by the joint commission, composed of Claudio De Nadai, Enrico Del Sole, Francesco Nalini and Alessandro Vardanega for Assindustria Venetocentro and by Gigliola Arreghini, Luca Fabbri, Roberto Gasparetto and Mauro Zennaro for Confindustria Venezia-Rovigo. In addition to the other two industrial metropolis of the North, the vast area of Milan and that of Bologna, thus adding to the national economic system a new institutional subject with a dimensional "size" on the model of the so-called MEGA, the areas of European metropolitan growth. «Our businesses, at every level, have had the strength to react, to change and renew themselves.

«Exports have held up – observes Leopoldo Destro – and have indeed increased. It is thanks to all this that Veneto, which has risen to sixth place in the EU for industrial added value, and the country have resisted and achieved results that lead to confidence. The objective difficulties of 2023, record inflation, energy costs, rate hikes that dry up liquidity, skill mismatches and demographic decline, urge everyone - institutions, politics, civil society - to be responsible for non-conservative but rather innovative responses".

President Leopoldo Destro has assigned the powers to the local vice presidents, Vincenzo Marinese (vicar, delegate for the Venice area), Alberto Zanatta (vicar, delegate for the Treviso area), Henry Del Sole (delegate for the Padua area), Paolo Armenio (delegate for the Rovigo area). The Presidential Council completed the new team with the choice of Gianmarco Russo as new general manager of Confindustria Veneto Est. The assignment will take effect from April 2023 and will allow for a gradual turnover with the current general manager Giuseppe Milan.
