Biden: his family urges him to stay in the race, but according to 72% of voters he should withdraw

What should have been a traditional family reunion in an untraditional place (Camp David, one of the residences of the President of the United States of America) turned into a crucial summit for decide Joe Biden's future and the United States of America. And according to US media the family urged the outgoing president to stay in the running for a second term despite the disaster that occurred during the first TV debate with Donald Trump in view of the November 5 elections, where the 81-year-old occupant of the White House appeared weak, with a low and hoarse voice, at times confused and incapable of formulating even the simplest concepts.

The Biden family urges the president to stay in the race

President Joe Biden gathered with his wife Jill, sister Valerie, children and grandchildren at Camp David to figure out how to curb the anxiety spreading among Democrats. Despite the proclaimed desire not to throw in the towel and the renewed support of the dem leaders, the commander in chief must in fact deal with the growing external and internal pressures: the numerous appeals from authoritative media for his withdrawal, the fears of a section of the party of losing not only the White House but also Congress, the doubts of many donors - from Hollywood to Silicon Valley - even if so far no one has turned off the taps (over $27 million raised between debate day and Friday night). Time is running out, less than two months left Chicago convention and on July 9 Biden does not want to appear like a lame duck in front of European leaders for the NATO summit in Washington, where all eyes and cameras will be focused on him again, ready to scrutinize his every misstep.

According to the New York Times  family members would have urged Biden to stay in the race. For them he would be perfectly capable of serving the country for another four years. The blame for what happened would not lie with him, but with the staff who prepared him for the event. This thesis is supported above all by his son Hunter Biden, to whom the president has long turned for advice.

The poll that scares Biden

However, voters seem to think differently, increasingly concerned about the president's mental and physical health. A survey carried out by CBS after last week's TV confrontation with Donald Trump shows that, for 72% of the sample of registered voters Biden is not in a fit state of mental health to lead the United States. The sample includes many Democratic voters. The main concerns listed by investors would concern his state of health, the decisions he might make if he were re-elected, and his ability to effectively campaign. 49% of the same sample thinks the same as Donald Trump. However, 45% of registered Democrats who responded to the survey said they believe the US president should step aside for another candidate.
