High speed, FS aims at Slovenia and France

The group led by Gianfranco Battisti is in the running to build high-speed railways in Slovenia and to bring Frecciarossa to France in competition with SNCF

High speed, FS aims at Slovenia and France

Fs expands abroad and this time puts Slovenia in the crosshairs: in the country bordering Italy, the railway group led by Gianfranco Battisti has a project to build the high-speed network, as it has already done by building the lines that carry fast trains from Italy to Greece, Great Britain, France and Spain. The negotiation with Slovenian Railways is still in its infancy: "The Slovenians - according to a source close to the dossier - would like to bring European excellence in rail transport to their territory". And the confirmation that Trenitalia would be an ideal partner to achieve the goal comes from the Slovenian press agency (Sta), with which the Slovenian railways unbuttoned a little more, explaining that from the bank with the FS Group could be born a high-speed link between Venice and Ljubljana.

Slovenske železnice has in fact added that the table with Trenitalia will also be discussed the extension of the Frecciarossa route from Venice to Trieste up to Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, while respecting the speed limit of 160 km/h established on the basis of the conformation of the Slovenian railway infrastructure. The talks, reveals today's edition of The Sun 24 hours, should lead to the creation of a link in December 2021 or early next year. Italy and Slovenia already had a direct rail connection between December 2004 and April 2008 with a Eurocity train which ran every day between the Venice Santa Lucia railway station and Ljubljana and ended its journey in Budapest.

Another European front on which the Italian railway group is working concerns the France, with the declared aim of compete with the local operator, the state-owned company SNCF. FS has confirmed its intention to bring Frecciarossa to France in the last quarter of 2021: the plan provides for a daily connection with two pairs of trains between Milan and Paris, via Lyon.
