In April 2019, Turin was chosen as the venue for the Nitto ATP Finals from 2021 to 2025. The first year was undoubtedly the most difficult. In this context, an important percentage must be taken into consideration: 40% of tickets were sold abroad, which means that those arriving will have to spend money on accommodation, food and various services. According to estimates, the economic impact on Turin of the 2023 ATP Finals amounts to 230 million of Euro. Not only that, the organization of the tournament generated tax revenue of 50 million and contributed to the creation of 1.500 jobs.
According to Ernst&Young estimates cited by Sun 24 Hours, in 2021 the economic impact of the event was 116 million and in 2022 it rose to 140 million. By adding the results of the three editions, the ATP Finals determined direct and indirect economic benefits for Turin of over 450 million. The figure, among other things, does not include revenues deriving from TV and commercial agreements, collected by the ATP.
How much is it worth to participate in the 2023 ATP Finals in Turin?
As said, the total prize pool is 15 million of dollars that the 8 participants divide based on the number of victories. Obviously, the biggest share goes to the winner. But let's go step by step.
All 8 participants in the event receive a minimum prize equal to $325.500 provided that they take part in all 3 matches of the round robin (the reserves instead get a minimum of 152.500 if they never take the field). They add us to this figure 390 thousand dollars for each victory conquered. Sinner and Djokovic, for example, already have over 715 thousand dollars in the safe. If you get 3 wins out of 3 in the group stage you get to $1.495.500.
But let's get to the richest spoils: the two winners of the semifinals are rewarded with a prize pool of 1.105.000 dollars, for the final victory instead rises to 2.201.000 dollars. If the tennis player who wins the ATP Finals manages to remain undefeated for the entire tournament, he can therefore reach a total of $4.801.500.
Lower the figures of the men's doubles ATP Finals. The participation prize is 132.000 dollars (50.850 dollars for reserves), plus 95 thousand for each victory in the group. winning in the semi-final is worth 175.650 dollars while the final victory is worth double that or 351.000 dollars. This ensures undefeated winners a total award of $943.650.
