March 8, Manageritalia and Vodafone against gender stereotypes

Equal opportunities advance, but always slowly. To say it are the data processed by Manager Italy in collaboration with AstraRicherche and Job Pricingi: on that front Italy is in 41st place out of 145 countries (22nd in Europe out of 45 countries), while the socio-family stereotypes seem to stand the test of time: 71% of Italians (European average 50%) believe that men are less competent than women in carrying out domestic tasks and 43% (European average 29%) believe that a father should put his career before having to take care of young children and finally 38% (29% Europe) think that women are less willing than men to have a career.

There is, at least, some awareness of the problem: 68% of Italians (62% the European average) think that today thegender inequality is still widespread in the country. Women 74% think it more than men 62% (in Europe women 68% and men 57%) and the area in which gender stereotypes are more widespread is their own labor market for 51% of Europeans and 63% % of Italians, surpassed only by Greece (70%).

All this despite, according to the study by the Peterson Institute for International Economics and EY, gender diversity in the workplace makes a difference and having at least 30% of women in leadership positions can increase the profit margin by up to 6%. corporate net.

“The management of gender, cultural and age diversity is crucial today – says Marisa Montegiove, coordinator of the Women's Group of Manageritalia -. Of course, it must be enough of a managerial organization of work, for companies and work to become truly "agile", capable of guaranteeing true and healthy flexibility that allows one to give the best at work and in personal life. Today this becomes a must for everyone and for managers above all. Because we need women to bring new life into society and the economy”.

There is a change, however: the work-life balance, the balance between family life and work, today is finally in first place among the factors of professional success also for managers with a prevalence of men (53% of managers and 55% of men) and if they want it for them, all the more reason they must make it accessible in their companies, for all collaborators. At the same time, female managers continue to increase in Italy (+0,8% managers and +1% middle managers in 2014)

Also Vodafone intervenes against gender stereotypes, creating a spot broadcast tomorrow on all television stations. On the occasion of Women's DayFurthermore, Vodafone Italia is giving away a day of 4G Internet to all its customers. Initiative also taken up by Tim who gives away 24 of 4G Internet, between 7 and 9 March. In addition, with a TV commercial, Vodafone will highlight precisely the small poisonous clichés that we don't even realize but which are the cultural scaffolding on which the idea of women's inferiority is built.

Also noteworthy is the idea of Fineco which, to celebrate women on their feast day, organized a classroom seminar and a webinar entitled "Women and trading: advantages and techniques" in Milan. The seminar will take place on Tuesday 8 March from 10.00 to 17.00, while the webinar will take place on the same day from 09.30 to 11.00. Martina Rocci, professional trader, will intervene and, in addition to sharing her own professional experience, will explain what are the personal characteristics that allow you to better manage the trading activity. A Fineco Trading Specialist will also be present. The two professionals will offer an overview of the financial instruments available and will address issues of behavioral finance and market approach. They will also demonstrate a trading technique based on moving averages and Bollinger Bands.

But the most significant initiative, on the complicated terrain of gender equality, is “HeforShe” which Vodafone will present tomorrow in Milan. This is the United Nations initiative to concretely implement gender equality and was welcomed by the CEO Vittorio Colao. Together with the CEOs of 9 other global corporations (including Unilever, Mc Kinsey, Twitter to name just a few), together with ten heads of state or government of as many countries (including Japan, Finland, Malawi, Rwanda) and with 10 universities excellent companies (including Georgetown, Oxford, Sciences Po, Nagoy among others), Vodafone has decided to become “champion” of “HeforShe” to make gender equality (50-50) a reality in the group. Precise commitments will be presented tomorrow, Tuesday 8 March; it will not be so obvious to realize them if 95% of the CEOs among the top 500 global companies taken over by Fortune are men, but the important thing is to implement concrete actions to at least start the change.
