Planes, 4-hour strike on Friday 18 June

Uno strike of 4 hours threatens to create quite a few turbulences in the Italian skies, causing inconvenience for travellers. The demonstration, organized by the air transport unions, will be held Friday 18 June, from 13pm to 17pm.

The strike was called by the trade unions of the sector "in defense of the workers of Alitalia and Air Italy, such as Blue Panorama and Air Dolomiti and Neos, but also Norwegian and Ernest in liquidation and the low cost easyJet, Ryanair / Malta Air, Wizz Air, Vueling and Volotea, of all the foreign airlines based and employed in our country, of the airport management, handling and catering companies and of all the seasonal and precarious workers in the sector", reads the joint note by Filt CGIL, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Ugl Trasporto Aereo, who have in parallel organized a garrison at Fiumicino airport”. The trade unions ask for "a permanent inter-ministerial forum for discussion and the establishment of a control room to guarantee social stability, ensuring social safety nets and proceeding rapidly with the reform of the sector to guarantee the reorganization of the airport system, labor rules that provide for the same regulatory and salary treatments under the same operating conditions and the refinancing of the Extraordinary Air Transport Fund".

The note reviews the vicissitudes of the various airlines. Alitalia defines the delay for the launch of the ITA newco as "unacceptable" and for the payment of salaries. On Air Italia, "an immediate solution is requested to avoid layoffs and layoffs must be extended, then working on an industrial solution". The layoffs in Norwegian and Ernest must also be avoided, while the delicate conditions of Blu Panorama and Air Dolomiti must be monitored, as well as EasyJet. “The union situation with the other low-cost companies is more complex, whose activities are recovering with the summer season but without adopting constructive union relations. For foreign airlines, the Emirates case is emblematic, which on the one hand resorts to social safety nets but on the other informs us of the divestment of cargo activities in our country”.
