2501, The Machine: special exhibition in Lissone

The exhibition itinerary questions the ways in which the pictorial medium develops on the basis of the interaction between man and machine, a prerequisite that allows us to work on two antithetical channels, bringing opposites together: natural and synthetic, analogue and digital , linear and circular.

2501, The Machine: special exhibition in Lissone

The exhibition LA MACCHINA is articulated as an atypical mosaic of the work of 2501 organized in different narrative and exhibition levels: the installations declined in the form of sculptures and prototypes, the paintings on canvas and paper, the performance. The works, created in the last three years, were conceived as pieces of the ongoing Nomadic Experiment project and will be exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lissone from 24 September 2016 to 27 November 2016

The installations present various models of the Machine, mechanisms composed of rollers that mechanically rotate paper ribbons on which the artist and the public have painted (in the past and in other places, but always in real time) following the movement in loop generated by the Machine itself.

Going beyond the physical and structural aspects of the exhibition, what emerges from the unfolding of the different installations is that they are not "representations" at all. They do not refer to a theory outside of them, nor do they convey symbolic meanings. Rather, they are "models" that fully express the desire of sculpture and painting to be used and created, and seem to re-propose in a new form - inclusive and open to the unexpected - the possibility of affecting reality through the project in its entirety .

This enlargement of perspective, in the direction of both the sculptural sphere and the public, is not so much due to the interest in translating "reality" into pictorial images, but intends to show the spectator how forms, mechanisms and sounds create a new visual space. The decision to use a number of different techniques – sculpture, sound experimentation, painting and performance – responds to the need to mix these impulses with the experience among the public and the generative action of the artistic process.

During the inauguration on 24 September, a live set performance will take place, intended as a synthesis and arrival point of the progression of the contents and techniques present in the exhibition, which will allow the lines, textures and signs produced by a prototype Machine created specifically for the museum of Lissone to dialogue with the sounds of a drum and a doepfer modular analog synthesizer.
