Cagliari and Bergamo go to the centre-left in the first round, Pescara and Ferrara go to the centre-right instead. In Bari, Florence and Perugia there is a runoff. These are the main results of the municipal elections on Saturday and Sunday. If it were a football match, the centre-left would have won the first round 10-6. But the center-right consoles itself with the regional elections in Piedmont where Alberto Cirio was reconfirmed governor, with 56,1% of the votes.
The cities won in the first round by the centre-left
In Sardinia, the center-left does an encore and after the regional elections also wins Cagliari, where Massimo Zedda, supported by Pd and M5S and supported by Italia Viva which however did not present its own list, won in the first round with 60,3%, beating the homonymous Alessandra Zedda (34,2%), centre-right candidate, former president of the Sardinian regional council and former councillor, once in Forza Italia and then merged with the League.
Victory of the centre-left in the first round a Bergamo, where the candidate Elena Carnevali (55%) defeated her centre-right rival Andrea Pezzotta (42,2%). The result matches the exploits of the outgoing mayor Giorgio gori who obtained over 210 thousand preferences in the European elections, placing second in the North West constituency behind Cecilia Strada (Pd, over 282 thousand) and ahead of general Roberto Vannacci (Lega, 186 thousand). “A result beyond expectations. 51 thousand preferences in the province, 11 thousand in the city. There is a great result for the Democratic Party in Bergamo, which gives hope for the administrative elections. But it is also the sign of a territory that wants to count in Europe."
The centre-left therefore snatches the mayors of Cagliari, but also Pavia from the centre-right, the mayor of Sassari from the civic lists and confirms the municipalities of Bergamo, Cesena, Livorno, Modena, Pesaro, Prato, Reggio Emilia.
The cities won in the first round by the centre-right
The centre-right won in the first round Pescara – with Carlo Masci of the centre-right at 51%, Carlo Costantini of the centre-left (Pd+M5s) at 34,2% – and Campobasso, where De Bendittis is currently at 51,7% against 34,2% of Forte, candidate of Pd + M5s.
Summing up the results: the center-right snatches the mayor of Campobasso from M5s and confirms the municipalities of Ascoli Piceno, Biella, Ferrara, Forlì, Pescara in the first round.
In the previous elections the centre-left won in 13 municipalities, the centre-right won 12 mayors.
Florence, Bari and Perugia on the ballot
Polls confirmed a Florence, where the PD candidate Sara Funaro (43,2%) does not reach 50% and goes to a run-off with the former director of the Uffizi Eike Schmidt (32,9%, centre-right candidate). Stefania Saccardi of Italia Viva stops at 7,29%, while the "Firenze Democratica" list led by former councilor Cecilia Del Re is at 6,21%. In this context it is necessary to underline the excellent result in the European elections of the outgoing mayor Dario Nardella, elected with almost 100 thousand preferences, 60 thousand of which in Florence.
Second round also a bari, where Vito Leccese, the Democratic Party candidate heir to the outgoing mayor Antonio Decaro, obtained 48,2% of the votes. The Northern League member Fabio Romito, candidate of the centre-right, has 29,1 percent. The victory in the first round fails because the five-star Michele Laforgia (21,75%) sneaked in between Leccese and the tricolor band. Worth underlining in this case is the boom in the Southern constituency of the outgoing mayor of Bari Antonio Decaro who beats everyone, including the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein, and garners almost 500 thousand preferences. An even more relevant result after the judicial storm that has hit Puglia in recent months and which led the leader of the M5s Antonio Conte (from Puglia) to renounce any alliance, however decreeing the defeat of his party, out of the ballot in Bari .
Among the main cities, too Perugia the head-to-head between Vittoria Ferdinandi (Democratic Party, 5 Star Movement, Green and Left Alliance, Action and part of Italia Viva) and Margherita Scoccia of the centre-right ended with a run-off: 49,01% for the former, 48,29 .XNUMX% for the second.
Ballot also held in Potenza, Vibo Valentia, Avellino, Cremona, Urbino, Verbania, Lecce and Rovigo.
Cirio does an encore in Piedmont
As widely expected, Piedmont has reconfirmed the Italian Alberto Cirio as leader of the Region, who thus won his second term as governor with 56,1% of the votes. Cirio defeated the dem challenger Gianna Pentenero who recognized his victory with a phone call a few hours after the start of the counting.
With the confirmation of the Piedmont region to the center-right (President Alberto Cirio), the coalition maintains power in 14 regions: Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Sicily, Trentino Alto Adige, Umbria and Veneto. The center-left governs in 6 regions: Campania, Emilia Romagna, Puglia, Sardinia, Tuscany and Valle d'Aosta.
"I am very satisfied of this result – commented Cirio – and I am above all because it is a confirmation in the sense that five years ago it was extraordinary for me to become governor of my Region, but I was new to the Turin context and many did not know me. Today, being confirmed means that the Piedmontese have chosen me, having seen the strengths and weaknesses that each of us has. This makes me very responsible and makes me say that tomorrow we will be in the office working for the citizens of Piedmont." “In this Region – remarked the winner of the elections – confirming an outgoing government was not a given. Just think of those who preceded me, all people of value like Mercedes Bresso and Sergio Chiamparino (both members of the Democratic Party, ed.), who were elected in their first term but then not reconfirmed". The last to do an encore was the Italian Enzo Ghigo, elected in 1995 and confirmed in 2000.
“We have tried – said Pentenero – to do everything possible for a result that has only been partially achieved, so we must take note of it and with great intellectual honesty continue to work for Piedmont”. The reference is to the late indication of his candidacy by the Democratic Party. There is also the regret of the lack of agreement with M5s: “Something could have changed. We left the door open all the way, but no one wanted to seize the opportunity in the 5 Star Movement, they felt they shouldn't start a planning or political journey with us." Pentenero entered the race at the last minute, to save the Democratic Party from a split between Daniele Valle and Chiara Gribaudo, supported respectively by the Bonaccini supporters and the exponents of the Schlein area.
