The flying car is upon us. Word of a Slovak engineer and designer, Stefan Klein – ex Audi and BMW – who has developed the prototype of his Aeromobil. Equipped with a Rotax 912 engine, model number zero – actually arrived at version 2.5 – is already capable of flying, as shown by a video lesson of tests carried out in Slovakia at the end of October.
After 23 years of development, “one more year is needed to get the certification of theAeromobil 3.0“, specified Stefan Klein, quoted by Les Echos. In addition to a convincing aesthetics, the flying machine also boasts good performance: 170 km per hour on the road and 200 km per hour in flight.
Commercialization of Aeromobil is scheduled for 2015 in the United States and Australia. But to experience the thrill of taking off in a two-seater, you'll need to spend at least $100.
The flying car market already has competitors. The American company Terrafugia presented two projects, the Transition - which flew for the first time in 2009 - and the TF-X, which will be launched respectively in 2018 and 2021.
