2 June, Mattarella: "Future of peace"

“The values that united us on June 2, 1946 continue to guide us to realize the same desire of our fathers: give future generations a peaceful, prosperous and supportive Italy”. Thus the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, opened his speech on the occasion of the annual parade, which will be attended by about 4000 people including soldiers and mayors.

The highest offices of the state and the government were present on the presidential stage. Like every year, the President paid homage to the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Vittoriano, accompanied by the Minister of Defense Pinotti and the Chief of Defense Staff Graziano.

Mattarella then wanted to recall a spirit of union and sharing: "the difficulties we are facing, the threats to our safety and well-being must be supported with a clear conscience of the results achieved".

An important change compared to the parades of previous years will be the presence, in the front row in via dei Fori Imperiali, of about 400 mayors, including many of the municipalities affected by earthquakes that have tormented Central Italy in recent months

“It's the most explicit way – he said dear, president of Anci – to express together the gratitude of the whole State towards them, and to make them feel truly supported by the institutions”.

Like every year, the Frecce Tricolori will fly over the area at the end of the ceremony. In a climate of continuous political and social uncertainty, the June 2 parade represents, and will represent, a reminder of the values of the Italian Republic.
