June 2 and earthquake, let's not forget the 24 victims

DIARY OUT OF THE CHORUS - The victims pay the highest price for the tragedy - Many were workers, immigrants from abroad or from the south, good people, with a fixed income and a family - The healthiest part of Italy, the one that usually it doesn't go in the newspaper – Today a short memory is dedicated to them.

June 2 and earthquake, let's not forget the 24 victims

There are 24 dead in this earthquake in Emilia, 24 people, men and women, who are "submerged" in this sad story. In every tragedy the true protagonist is the victim, the one who pays the highest price. Yet it is the first to be forgotten: in the chronicle of crimes that we see on TV we learn to know the perpetrators much better than those who are no longer there. It's the harsh law of life, always looking ahead, following an arrow that moves in only one direction.

For once, however, we want to turn around. Our newspaper deals with the economy and in this diary we have tried to talk above all about this aspect even in the earthquake, we never named each of these people. Even for us then The time has come to compensate a little for the memory of those who are no longer with us.

Many were workers, often immigrants from abroad or from the south, good people, with a fixed income, a family, a great sense of work. The healthiest part of Italy, the one that usually doesn't get in the newspaper, because she is not involved in millionaire scandals. Unfortunately her death, this time, has placed her icy hand right on them. Seven disappeared in the earthquake of 20 May, 17 in that of 29 May.

20 May 2012

Nicholas Cavicchi, The 35-year-old electrical engineer worked the night shift in the single-fired department of Sant'Agostino Ceramiche in the province of Ferrara when the roof of the shed collapsed with the strong quake at 4 in the morning. Anyone who wants to know him better can go to the internet, where there is a post-earthquake interview from the 20th. Bignardi, with a red helmet over his gray hair, makes a sadly prophetic statement: "The sheds - he says - are the structures at risk, because the beams have more limited support. With a strong shock everything can collapse”.

Mario Mantovani, 64 years old, entrepreneur, died on May 29 in his warehouse at Aries Biomedicale in Mirandola. A few days earlier he had told Il Sole 24 ore: "In the last three days I have done nothing but run from one part of the Bassa to the other to find a free and standing shed, here between Mirandola and Medolla it used to be full of leaseholds, now instead everyone wants to sell. I also went to Poggio Rusco in the province of Mantua, but what will happen if many change location?”.

Zhou Hong Li, of whom very little is known, is the Chinese man found under the rubble of his house which collapsed in Mirandola on 29 May. He is one of the 4 victims (out of 17) of that Black Tuesday, who will have a funeral in the next few days. The Modenese prosecutor's office has in fact given the go-ahead, believing that there is nothing else to ascertain.

The same goes for Sergio Cobellini, Ivan Martini and Enzo Borghi.

Sergio Cobellini, 68 years old, retired, former carpenter, met the blind fury of the earthquake as he was leaving a bank in Concordia (Mo) and a chimney fell on his head.

Ivan Martini, 65 years old, he was the parish priest of Rovereto, who died while trying to save a statuette of the Madonna in the church of Santa Caterina, dear to all the faithful. He was hit by a large unsafe stone, under the eyes of the firefighters who were accompanying him. Engaged in social work, he appears on the internet in various videos.
